I love Lisbon. I know, it looks like I love everywhere I visit, that might be true. But I genuinely love this city.

Lisbon has everything for every type of traveler: incredible sunsets, street art, food, beaches… and it’s worth the visit even just for a few hours. That’s what I did last time I visited, on a long stopover, and these were the cool places I’ve got to visit with Alex.

On this post, you will find some of the things Lisbon has to offer that doesn’t appear in most guides.

5 Cool Places in Lisbon

LX Factory

LX Factory is an old factory converted into the creative center of the city: a place for artists, architects, exhibitions, shops, street art and graffiti.

If you plan to visit, do not forget to check the events on their website. They often organize parties, events and workshops.

Must-see: Ler Devagar

One of the most beautiful bookstores in the world is right here at LX Factory. Located in an old print, Let Devagar has something for everyone: art galleries, cafés, shops and of course: books.

Must-eat: Landau

If you like chocolate, then you need to visit Landau, who have one of the most delicious chocolate cakes I’ve ever tasted. Plus, the decor is really nice!

Rua Nova do Carvalho

Rua Nova do Carvalho, also known as Pink Street, was originally the heart of the Red light district in Lisbon, in Cais do Sodré.

When visiting here, don’t forget t pay a visit too to Pensao Amor, a former brothel that has been reconverted into a cafe. It’s quite interesting because they have preserved many elements from the brothel times that will surprise you – I recommend you going in the afternoon as it can get really crowded at night!

MAAT

MAAT is the Art, Architecture and Technology Museum of Lisbon.

This building will attract anyone interested in architecture – you can even walk on top of the roof! Plus, thanks to its privileged location by the river, it’s a pretty place to enjoy sunset.

Mercado da Ribeira / Time Out Market

Another cool spot in Lisbon – especially for foodies!

To be completely honest, this place is quite touristy and you won’t find many locals eating here – it doesn’t mean it’s not worth it! You’ll find a wide range of options of international cuisine and even a tattoo studio at the upper floor.

Mirador da Senhora do Monte – Sunset Spot

A visit to Lisbon cannot be complete without enjoying sunset from one of the many viewpoints of the city.

As Lisbon is quite hilly, there are many places with a view to the sunset. I really loved the views from Mirador da Senhora do Monte, with one of the best panoramic views of the city, framed between Castelo de Sao Jorge and 25 de Abril Bridge.
