Staying at Six Senses Douro Valley

Six Senses Douro Valley

Six Senses are luxury five stars hotels and resorts, stylish and sustainable. They’re always in total harmony with the environment, and the same happens with its property in Portugal.

This was my first experience in a Six Senses resort and I was surprised by this blissful stay.

Here’s what staying at Six Senses Douro Valley looks like!

Staying at Six Senses Douro Valley

Location

Six Senses Douro Valley is located in the oldest wine region in the world. Set on a hill overlooking river Douro and UNESCO heritage Douro Valley, it’s just a 75-minute drive from Porto.

The location is perfect for walking, enjoy the nature and practice meditation.

Transfers can be arranged by the hotel at extra cost.

The hotel

This was the most outstanding hotel I’ve ever been to.

Six Senses Douro Valley cares about the experiences of their guests, in a perfect balance with environment, elegance, history and tradition from the region. Decoration and lighting is just perfect.

It’s set in a 8 hectare property, in a 19th century manor house that feels like a palace.

Rooms & Suites

I was staying at a Superior Double Room: it was spacious, with the comfiest beds I’ve ever had and a sweet view to Douro river and the forest.

We were welcomed with organic snacks and a bottle of Porto wine as a gift at our arrival.

At Six Senses Douro Valley they also have available suites and private villas.

Mineral water is produced on-site to reduce the carbon footprint associated with packaging and transportation and they have an organic farm growing vegetables and spices in order to be self sufficient. They also employ people from the region whenever is possible, and local farmers and products as well. They are also a plastic-free company, eco-friendly and pet-friendly. Yay for Six Senses!

They donate 50% of its water bottles sales to a local charity.
