This small luxury cruise line offers an intimate, unique adventure, and it certainly delivers. My recent voyage aboard Windstar Cruises took me through the stunning Adriatic coast and beyond, with stops in Croatia, Montenegro, and Italy.

Staterooms at Wind Surf
Our stateroom at Wind Surf was spacious, with an elegant style, lots of storage and an added touch of luxury.
The room was tastefully decorated with modern amenities, including a plush bed, a well-appointed bathroom, and ample storage space. They brought fresh roses and fruit baskets every day, as well as other treats related to our next port of call.
Our stateroom was the perfect retreat after our days of exploration.
Restaurants and bars at Wind Surf
The dining experience onboard Wind Surf is one of their biggest selling points. Unlike other cruise lines, all restaurants are included for all passengers.
WindStar is the official cruise line of the James Beard foundation, with an excellent choice and quality of meals.

Windstar Cruises: Classic Italy & Dalmatian Coast
Our itinerary was a carefully curated selection of some of the most beautiful destinations in the Adriatic and beyond. Our journey began in Venice, Italy, sailing away in front of St. Mark’s square with an opera singer performing live. Unforgettable!
Our first ports of call were in Croatia. On our first stop we explored the charming town of Rovinj with its cobblestone streets and picturesque harbor. On the next day we visited Hvar, known for its lively nightlife and stunning beaches. A perfect blend of relaxation and excitement. We also visited Dubrovnik, with its historic walls and amazing old town, was a highlight of the trip.
Our stop in Montenegro was the town of Kotor, also known for its walls, beautiful old town, and many many cats. This was the location for their signature barbecue.
Then we spent a day at the sea when we had the opportunity to take photos at the bow – a true Titanic moment! It was the perfect day to ay a visit to the World Spa by Windstar.
Then we sailed back to Italy, stopping in Sorrento, Amalfi Coast, sailing at night around the Stromboli volcano. Witnessing a volcano in eruption in the midde Mediterranean Sea while an opera singer was performing live was beyond beautiful. It was such a bucketlist moment.
Finally, our journey concluded in Rome. All the paths lead to Rome, anyways! It was the perfect ending for our Mediterranean adventure.
Things I loved about Windstar Cruises
There were many reasons that made this experience unique and worth it. As their slogan says, it’s really 180º from ordinary.
Firstly, on the first day the captain Tom Schoefield was there to welcome and greet us, also when we disembarked. This certainly added a more personal touch.
The Wind Surf is the largest sailing ship in the world, however, it’s way smaller than other cruise ships I’ve been to. This offers a more personalized experience: the crew addresses you by your name and it never feels crowded. More importantly, due to its size it has the best mooring locations where big cruise ships can’t access.
Another differienting factor is the fact that the bridge is open at almost all times, so guests can go for a visit to learn more about sailing.
All the ships by Windstar Cruises are considered yachts, and there’s actually a yacht feeling while you’re onboard! They also have their unique watersports platform which is great fun and refreshing.
Another good point is the dining experience: it was amazing! If you’re a foodie, you will love it.
Finally, seeing the beautiful sails in action every day is another highlight of the cruise.
Final thoughts
What truly sets Windstar Cruises apart is the personalized service and intimate atmosphere.
With fewer passengers on board compared to larger cruise lines, the crew can attend to each guest with exceptional care and attention. From remembering my name and favorite drink to offering insightful tips about each port of call, the staff’s dedication to creating a personalized experience was evident.
This level of service and personal touch made my journey with Windstar Cruises feel like a bespoke adventure crafted just for me.
